Overview
African Conservation Experience was founded in 1999 by Rob and Marion, following their efforts to help young people undertake gap year experiences supporting wildlife conservation in South Africa.
What began as a single placement has since grown into an organisation that has supported thousands of conservation travellers of all ages from around the world.
Mission and approach
African Conservation Experience is committed to wildlife conservation in southern Africa.
The organisation’s mission is to inspire, challenge and empower people to make a meaningful difference to wildlife conservation, while supporting ethical and ecologically important initiatives.
They remain proudly focused on wildlife conservation and responsible engagement.
What they do
The organisation facilitates conservation-focused travel experiences by working in close partnership with wildlife projects and conservation professionals.
Their programmes aim to generate both financial and practical support for conservation initiatives while providing participants with authentic, hands-on experiences.
African Conservation Experience is also actively involved in campaigning against unethical practices, including lion farming and cub cuddling, and seeks to promote responsible wildlife tourism.
Expedition and participation opportunities
African Conservation Experience offers conservation travel and volunteering opportunities for:
- Gap year students
- Wildlife enthusiasts
- Conservation travellers of all ages
Participants contribute to wildlife conservation projects while gaining practical experience and insight into conservation challenges in the region.
