Students should have an understanding of the triangular slave trade and can use the resources on the Maroons as a case study of resistance. There were many forms of resistance by the slaves; the Maroon people of Jamaica escaped from the plantations by forming communities in the hills. Use the image of the Maroons first and ask the students to write their own questions around it. After discussing their questions, ask the students to answer the question sheet. This can be done as a whole class discussion or through group work. Give out the information sheet to the students to understand how the Maroon community resisted slavery and how freedom was achieved.
