Research Groups

Our Research Groups bring together active researchers and those with a professional interest in a particular aspect of geography and related disciplines.

About Research and Working Groups

The Society has over 30 Research and Working Groups, which bring together researchers and those with a professional interest in a particular aspect of geography and related disciplines.聽Some groups bring together those working on particular themes, while others bring together those interested in particular methodologies. Other Research Groups also advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion within geography.聽

The primary remit of Research Groups is to support and promote their area of geography through support for academic research and teaching, but their work also extends into education, public policy and research, government and enterprise. The groups are supported by committees made up of elected positions that help to facilitate their activities.聽

Research Groups play a key role in the Society鈥檚聽Annual International Conference, sponsoring sessions, organising socials and supporting attendance聽for individuals who might otherwise be unable to attend. Among their other activities, the groups create resources, support mentoring and career development, and organise a variety events. They also celebrate the achievements of students through undergraduate dissertation prizes, and offer awards, prizes and funding to researchers working in their area of the discipline.
